One of the most common questions we receive as professional wedding and event photographers is: "how many photos will you capture"? And although our contracts and packages provide an estimate range to expect - the answer to this question can vary.
The number of photos you receive in your final gallery is dependent on the hours of coverage selected and the nature of the event 📸⏳ But overall, we do not believe in putting a cap or limit on the number of images you will receive in total; and although we can estimate a rough quantity from years of experience… if we have great shots of you, you’re getting all of them! 🤗
Quality, Not Quantity
In theory, having a lot of photos can seem like a good thing. But, there is certainly a point where the number of photos can be excessive – especially when they seem redundant.
In the event showcased in this blog, we only covered 3 hours of pre wedding festivities.
Having repetitive images of the same actions over and over also does not add to the overall quality of a photo gallery. We much prefer having great photos with amazing lighting and context to tell the story of what occurred - and this blog post represents that very well!
Trust Your Photographer
So, while consumer culture has lead us to see “more” as “better”, you will be disappointed if you approach your photography needs in that way. Instead, talk candidly with your photographer about your priorities and expectations, and trust them to not just create a lot of images, but to create the right number of images.
What Affects the Quantity of Photos Taken at an Event?
So, how many photos are enough for event photography? While it varies on the event, on average you can expect around 20-50 quality photos for every hour of shootng time. However, there are several factors that play into how many photos are captured, including:
The type of event
The freedom a photographer has to move around
And the weather (if it’s outside)
Why Promising an exact Number of Photos in Event Photography is Difficult
It seems easy—just point and click the camera, and you end up with amazing shots, right?
That is not the case.
Any photographer knows this isn’t true, and it’s important that every client understands this as well. Constant adjustment to manual camera settings, use of proper lighting, and a creative eye with quick reflexes will make for a great photo gallery - and these skills do not just "occur" in lightning speed.
