When Rob contacted us to photograph his surprise proposal to Isabella, he had an unforgettable plan in mind. Isabella believed they were simply heading north for a camping trip with friends, but hidden among the trees on a private island was a proposal she never saw coming.

Planning the Perfect Surprise Proposal
One of the biggest reasons this proposal was so successful was the planning that happened long before anyone stepped into a canoe.
Rob reached out well in advance so we could help coordinate every detail without Isabella becoming suspicious. Together with their friends, the plan was carefully organized around a camping trip that would naturally lead everyone to a rented island campsite.
While Isabella believed they were simply arriving to spend the weekend outdoors, her friends had already transformed the campsite into the perfect place to celebrate their engagement.
Soft music played in the background, a beautiful charcuterie board had been prepared, drinks were waiting to celebrate, and every small detail helped create an atmosphere that immediately felt different.
Sometimes the simplest ideas become the most meaningful.
Arriving by Canoe to a Hidden Island
One of the most memorable parts of this proposal was how it unfolded.
To keep everything a surprise, our team arrived at the island well before Rob and Isabella. Carrying camera gear through the campsite, we quietly found hidden positions among the trees where we could photograph the proposal without being noticed.
As Rob and Isabella paddled toward shore, we watched from a distance.
The closer they came, the more Isabella began noticing that something felt different.
Friends were already waiting.
Music was playing softly.
The campsite looked beautifully prepared.
Within seconds, she realized what was about to happen.
Those few moments of realization often become some of our favourite photographs because nothing is posed, nothing is forced, and every emotion is completely genuine.

Celebrating Together
After the proposal, everyone gathered together to celebrate.
The charcuterie board, drinks, and relaxed atmosphere allowed everyone to slow down and enjoy the moment before beginning engagement portraits around the island.
Including close friends in a proposal creates something incredibly special. Instead of celebrating over dinner hours later, everyone shared in the excitement immediately, creating authentic photographs filled with hugs, laughter, congratulations, and stories that they'll remember forever.

Once the excitement settled, we explored the shoreline together for a relaxed engagement session.

Rather than directing every pose, we encouraged Rob and Isabella to enjoy the moment together.
