Why Bringing Your Own Photographer & Videographer to a Destination Wedding Is the Best Decision You’ll Make (Even If You Don’t Realize It Yet)

When couples plan a destination wedding, there’s a moment where the resort coordinator says something like:

“Don’t worry, we have photographers and videographers here you can use.”

And in that moment, it sounds convenient. Easy. Included. Handled.

But what most couples don’t realize is that this is one of the biggest silent compromises they’re about to make for their wedding memories.

You don’t feel it on the wedding day. You don’t notice it during the planning.

You only understand it after the wedding… when you receive the photos and film and realize what could have been captured.

This blog is just a tiny teaser of what we captured for our couple Claudia and Michal. And it perfectly shows why bringing your own team changes everything.

Fun Fact: It wasn’t the sunset session we originally imagined — but in the toughest light of the day (hello, mid-afternoon sun), we still created some absolutely epic trash the dress images. Huge shoutout to Claudia and Michal for wading into the water in full wedding attire for these magazine shots! Total troopers. Let’s go.

Coverage That Resort Teams Simply Cannot Provide

Most resort packages include:

  • Limited hours of coverage

  • No off-wedding day shooting

  • Little to no storytelling footage

We were there from the beginning to the very end helping guide the day and timeline — because that’s where the real memories live.

The Comfort Factor Couples Don’t Expect

Here’s something couples never think about until it happens:

You are in a foreign country. You are nervous. You are on a tight schedule. You are surrounded by unfamiliar staff.

Now imagine having a team with you that you already know, trust, and feel comfortable around.

That changes everything.

Claudia and Zeddy didn’t have to “warm up” to us. They didn’t have to explain their vision. They didn’t have to hope the photographer understood them.

We already did.

That comfort shows in every image, and especially in the wedding film

The Aftermath Is Where the Truth Hits

This is the part no one tells you.

You don’t realize the value of bringing your own team on the wedding day.

You realize it weeks later, when you open your gallery and watch your film.

That’s when couples say:

“I’m so glad we didn’t go with the resort.”

Because this is the only thing that comes home with you.

Not the palm trees. Not the ocean breeze. Not the décor.

Just your photos.Just your film.

And the difference between “nice” and “unforgettable” is massive.

Once the wedding is over, there are no second chances.

And the couples who bring their own photographer and videographer never regret it.

The ones who don’t… often wish they did.

Now here's the thing....we only take on 2–3 destination weddings per year — not as a gimmick, but because our schedule truly doesn’t allow for more time away.

With a calendar packed by the couples we serve at home, saying yes to a destination wedding means pausing multiple projects, arranging our time off, and committing fully to one story abroad. So when we do accept one, it’s intentional and with purpose.

No hard feelings — just logistics, and a promise to never stretch ourselves thin at the expense of quality.

If you're planning a destination wedding, feel free to connect to see if we are able to take it on :)
